At Invetsa, we are always on the lookout to provide you with the best solutions for the care of your livestock production, with the aim of optimizing its development.
¿What is Distomicide and what are its benefits?
Distomicide is an internal antiparasitic in injectable solution based on Nitroxinil, indicated for the treatment of liver fluke, gastrointestinal nematodosis and ovine oestrosis.
It also stands out for its effectiveness in breaking the cycle by eliminating adult flukes, acting actively against Fasciola hepatica and Fasciola gigantica, adult and larval forms of Haemonchus contortus, Haemonchus placei, Oesophaostomum radiatum, Bunostomun phlebotomun and Oestrus ovis.
Likewise, it has a rapid absorption (2 hours) from the point of application, obtaining a high concentration in plasma, high plasma availability and a longer persistence in serum.
Said persistence in serum together with its accumulation in the viscera (liver, kidney) favors the presence of active molecules that will eliminate the larval phases of Fasciola as they grow and increase their sensitivity to the action of Nitroxinil.
¿What is fasciolosis?
Fascioliasis is a parasitic disease with a high incidence in grazing ruminants that generates very important lesions and can occur in two courses.
Chronic course
Characterized by being the most frequent. Within these are the most damaging stages: adult parasites and immature parasites older than 8 weeks that cause damage to the bile canaliculi, anemia and a decrease in plasma proteins that can cause sudden death in animals.
Acute course
Characterized by being the rarest. It occurs due to the ingestion of a large number of metacercariae in a short time, generating a picture of hemorrhagic anemia and death in 1-2 days.
¿What are their characteristics?
Distomicide is characterized by the following:
- It is a product without resistors.
- High efficiency.
- It is more than a fasciolicide.
- It has a high persistence
¿How and when to apply them?
Due to the absence of resistance and recommendations of the European Union regarding the rotation in the application of antiparasitics, it is essential to apply Distomicide under the following indications:
Grazing throughout the year – winter housing
Two treatments: one at the beginning of spring (3-4 weeks before going out to pasture) and another at the end of autumn (or the beginning of housing).
Calf bait
Treat during entry to the feedlot. Previously, it is advisable to adequately deworm the animals before vaccination to obtain optimal responses in their immune system.
